2012 AFCON winner, Kalaba cleared and released from hospital after horrific accident
Zambia legend Rainford Kalaba has been discharged from the University Teaching Hospital, confirmed by the health facility.
Nzeba Chanda, UTH-Adult Public Relations Officer, stated, “Mr. Rainford Kalaba has been discharged from the UTH-Adult where he was admitted after being involved in a road traffic accident two weeks ago. Today marks exactly 14 days from the time of his admission. He is going to recuperate at his family home.”
The 37-year-old was a passenger in a Mercedes Benz involved in a collision with an oncoming truck in the south-eastern Zambian town of Kafue. Initially reported as deceased, Kalaba was later admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Kalaba, known for his distinguished club career primarily at TP Mazembe, secured notable victories including the CAF Champions League in 2015 and the CAF Confederation Cup in 2016. Additionally, he had a stint in Portugal.
A significant contributor to the Chipolopolo squad, Kalaba played a pivotal role in Zambia’s Africa Cup of Nations victory in 2012 and has won several trophies with TP Mazembe including CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
