2022 AWCON Q: Zabo Puts Up Tough Roster For CAR Games

Rookie Indomitable Lionesses head – coach Gabriel Zabo has named a strong squad comprising of 23 local and international players, for games against the Central African Republic on Oct. 20 and 24, in view for the 2022 AWCON qualifiers.

The gaffer has handed Feudjio Raissa her maiden call – up in his tenure, opining his confidence in the latter despite that bad injury in December 2019, that acted as a speed bump to her career till date.

Zabo has equally included Internazionale striker Nchout Ajara – to the squad. She recently scored in the Serie A against Roma.

Seven of the players listed by coach Zabo took part in the 2019 Women’s World Cup held in France.

Both legs will be played in Cameroon – due to logistical reasons on CAR’s part. The first leg will be played on October 20 in Douala, while the reversed fixture on October 24 will be played in the nation’s political capital of Yaounde.

44 teams will start the qualifiers but only 12 including hosts, Morocco, will earn the right to get inducted into the tournament finals.

Pundits have tipped this to be Zabo’s first real test after a dismal performances at the Aisha Buhari Cup, that led to the Lionesses losing to Ghana and Morocco.
