2023 U20 AFCON Draw: Hosts Egypt Housed In Group A Alongside Senegal & Nigeria

The countdown for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations penciled for Egypt has already begun.

The draw for the final phase was carried out by the Confederation of African Football on Friday Dec. 23rd. Hosts Egypt have a stern test ahead with some elite sides in group A.

For the first time, the U20 AFCON will take place with twelve teams. They are divided into three groups of four.

Egypt shares its group with two behemoths of African football. Nigeria, seven-time winners of the U20 AFCON, and Senegal, three-time finalists, will be looking to ‘bare their fangs’.

Mozambique, who were eliminated in the group stage of the last edition, complete group A.

The other groups are much more open. In group B, there is Uganda, vice-champions of the last edition, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, quarter-finalists of the last U20 AFCON, and Congo, winners in 2007.

Group C promises some fireworks with Tunisia, finalists in 1985. They are joined by Gambia, bronze medalists in the 2021 edition, Benin, whose last participation dates back to 2013 in Algeria, and Zambia, winners in 2017.

The tournament will be played from February 19 to March 11, 2023 in three cities; Cairo, Ismailia and Alexandria.
