President Tshisekedi hints at DR Congo’s possible 2029 AFCON bid

President Felix Tshisekedi has hinted at the possibility for an AFCON 2029 bid in his most recent outing.

H.E Tshisekedi is a football enthusiast, and that was illuminated in the 2023 TotalEnergies AFCON, where he made the move from Congo to Cote D’Ivoire to support the Leopards, in their semi finals fixture against hosts Cote D’Ivoire.

After the success of the 9th Francophonie Games in Kinshasa, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo wants to obtain the organization of another competition, this time continental.

During a special briefing organized this Thursday, February 22, 2024, the fifth Congolese President declared an AFCON 2029 bid as one of his wishes.

“I aim to promote the DRC’s candidacy for AFCON 2029 in the Democratic Republic of Congo,” announced the Head of State to the press.

A wish that looks like a gigantic challenge given what the organization of an African Cup of Nations represents and the current situation of the country in several areas of life.

DR Congo faces many challenges at the internal level to overcome. However, 2029 is in 5 years, and the country must start laying the foundations now if they want to obtain the rights for the continental jamboree on Congolese soil and succeed.
