“We are screwed if we appoint a local coach,” Alex Song on Indomitable Lions vacant job

Former Cameroon international, Alexandre Song – is against the idea of appointing a local coach at the helm of of the indomitable Lions.

“If we give the national selection to a Cameroonian, we are screwed! We need a foreigner who has personality, capable of taking responsibility for his choices,” aired the former Arsenal player in a statement uttered on Fou Fou Foot, a show on CRTV.

To many, statement directly incriminates his uncle, Rigobert, whose time at the head of the Indomitable Lions turned out to be a fiasco.

With a record of only 6 victories in 23 matches played, Rigobert Song failed to leave his mark with the five-time African champions.

Now, the race for the succession of Rigobert Song is in full gear.

The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has reportedly shortlisted a couple of coaches which will be presented to the minister of sports.

The Government will have the last word in this thorny issue since it is the presidency which will pay the salaries of the new coach and his assistant.

Several renowned coaches are sought after by FECAFOOT, including Frenchman Hervé Renard who will be free of any commitment with the French women’s team, at the end of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Antonio Conceincao and Hugo Broos could make possible returns to the den, while: Raymond Domenech, Antoine Kombouaré and Jürgen Klinsmann are the other names mentioned.
