WCQ: Lions Leapfrog Mozambique To Take Temporal Lead In Group D

Despite all the pre – match events; arriving Tanger just hours to the game, the Indomitable Lions Leapfrogged Mozambique one – nil to take temporal lead of group D, in the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

It took a late header from Michael Ngadeu to put the Lions two points clear – off rivals Cote D’Ivoire, ahead of their game later today, against Mozambique.

It was indeed a slow start from the Lions and the only occasion that illuminated the first half came on half an hour.

A quick throw – in from Fai Collins found Hellas Verona’s Martin Hongla who spread the ball for Aboubakar, and the latter turned on his marker but his attempt on target was parried by goalkeeper Ernan Siluane.

49 minutes in, Catamo found the back of the net but he was flagged off-site, much to the delight of Epassy Devis.

It was Mozambique that looked the better side in the first few minutes of the second half with Antonio Dayo and Geny Catamo missing a couple of half chances.

A cross from Moumi Ngamaleu at the 67th minute was fumbled by goalkeeper Siluane and Ngadeu nodded in for his second goal this WC qualifiers after his first against Malawi on match day one.

Cameroon nearly extended their lead at the 78th minute when some fine interchange of passes ended up with Bahoken whose first control was good, but Nhaca Ocozias made a great recovery to clear the danger.

Cameroon moves to top of group D with 9 points while awaiting Cote D’Ivoire’s game against Malawi.
