2021 AFCON Opener: Can Cameroon Replicate Welcome Aesthetics?

The Euphoria ahead of the 33rd African Cup of Nations is gradually reaching its peak with Cameroon and Burkina Faso to face each other in the hours ahead for the opening game.

Preparations have hightened with almost all 24 teams present in Cameroon and press conferences have stirred up the heat.

Over the years Cameroon has developed a reputation for organizing beautiful and interesting welcome ceremonies for international football competitions as well as other disciplines.

AFCON 2021 which kicks off in matter hours will be a third international football tournament hosted by Cameroon in five years.

In 2016 the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium played host to a colorful choreographic display that opened the 10th edition of Women’s AFCON. Cameroon beat Egypt 2-0.

The event of November 19 2016 left event organizers trilled and was tipped better than that of Gabon 2017 in the men’s category.

The local organizing committee of 2020 African African Nations Championship, CHAN served spectators with another exceptional welcome event when Cameroon’s Intermidiate Lions drew 1-1 with the Eaglets of Mali.

The storyline hasn’t been any different with other Continental tournaments such as the senior Women’s Afro-basket and Handball Championships all in 2021.

With prominent African artists present in Cameroon and some activities supervised by COCAN, the local organizing committee seen on social media, many are confident that African football lovers will receive a warm welcome.
