Elite One: New Format Could Be A Nightmare For Coton, YOSA & PWD

A draft session has just ended at the headquarters of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) between the boss of the franchise, Samuel Eto’o, the Transitional Committee of Professional Football, and the club presidents.

The opening game of the football season originally scheduled for this Wednesday, March 16 should see some changes. According to sources; the meeting initially planned to pit PWD of Bamenda against Bamboutos will be held in Mbouda as planned.

The calendar and format of the Cameroonian first division championship, MTN Elite One, has been changed. The competition will be played in two groups of 12 and 13 clubs as initially announced, but just in a one leg system.

There’s however a little tweak in terms of logistics. Well-identified cities of: Douala, Yaounde, Bafoussam and Limbe, are the only towns which will host games. Therefore, a club like Coton Sport of Garoua will have to play all its league matches in the south of the country. Of course, all these changes are yet to be made public by the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).

A club like Cotonsport has been near Invincible at home due to other factors that aid them pick teams apart at the mythical Roumde Adjia stadium. Newly crowned Cameroon Cup champions PWD of Bamenda and YOSA as well, have a huge home-based support, but all those advantages could now be missing.

The cost of playing out of base will reportedly be taken care of by the FA, as gotten by a sportsglitz source. These changes are aimed at meeting the CAF deadline.
