AFCON U23 Qualifiers: Cape Town Approves Ambina’s Call

Midfield metronome, Fidel Brice Ambina has received an affirmative nod from club side Cape Town City to join the U23 Lions in Angola.

Up till the last minutes, it was unsure if the former Renaissance FC midfeilder was going to be set free, given the role he has adopted at Cape Town City, and the gargantuan performances he has been having this season.

After close to a month of training in Yaounde, the U23 Lions left the nation’s capital for Luanda on Tuesday, October 18.

Guy Feutchine’s side will face Angola in the first leg of the second round of the U23 AFCON qualifiers to be staged next year in Morocco.

The game against Angola will be played on Sunday, October 23rd before the reversed fixture a week later.

For the tie, 22 players were selected from 36 earlier preselected.

The Olympic Lions played two friendlies while in Yaounde, against Renaissance and Fauve Azur.

The team lost to Renaissance of Ngoumou (2-1) on October 13, 2022 at the Omnisport annex number 1. Earlier on October 8, they inflicted a heavy defeat (4-0) on Fauve Azur.
