Colombe – Cotonsport: Che Malone Voted MVP In Dead Rubber

Defender, Che Malone Fondoh was voted man of the match in Cotonsport’s first league outing on match day two of the Cameroon Elite One Championship, having had their match day one game postponed.

The 23-year-old and co on the back of a defeat against Bamboutos FC in the super cup last Saturday, couldn’t return to winning ways just yet, against a well structured Colombe side.

The scoreline didn’t tell the real story of the game, as Allambatnan and Idrissou Nfor were busy on either side of the field, making some breath-taking saves.

Cotonsport had arguably the best chance of the game, when Jean Emmanuel Chamjou’s header struck goalkeeper Idrissou’s upright in the dying minutes of the game.

Talking post match, Che Malone acknowledged that Cotonsport came up against group leaders, Colombe, who are no pushovers.

‘they are the leaders of our group. When playing against the leaders, we have it in our mind that we are playing against the very best.’

Quizzed on if tiredness had an impact after the super cup game, the erstwhile Union defender denied every fatigue claims. ‘It isn’t because of tiredness. Just that we were not realistic, that’s all.’

The sweeper added that coach Gabriel Haman always drills them against losing successive games.

‘As our coach always tells us, a good team doesn’t lose successive games. Approaching the game, we had it in the back of our minds. We didn’t lose the match, but went home with a point – which is important.’

Cotonsport was on standby on match day one, and they have quite some catching up to do in group A, where Colombe stretched their lead at the top moving to 7 points, 3 ahead of second placed Stade Renard.
