Salima Mukansanga of Rwanda together with Frappart and Yamashita Yoshimi of Japan were named among the tournament’s referees with three female assistant referees at the global showpiece event in Qatar.

The Rwandan did alright in her position as fourth official for the second match of Group D pitting France against Australia – which ended 4-1 for Les Bleus.

An all Africa refereeing team headed by South Africa’s Victor Gomes; countryman Zakhele Siwela and Souru Phatsoane from Lesotho – had a modest game, without any major controversies.

Mukansanga, 34, was in the history books earlier this year when she became the first female referee to officiate a game in the African Cup of Nations, in Yaounde, Cameroon. In its 65-year-long run, AFCON had never had a women-led team of referring officials.
