A formidable contribution of the plantain industry to national unity before the 2025 presidential elections in Cameroon
According to sources, the 4th edition of the international plantain festival is being actively prepared.
The Plantain Industry of Cameroon is working hard on major innovations. The first concern is probably the period decided for this international event of great importance which holds the high patronage of the Head of State.
According to well-informed sources, this year the festival will no longer take place at the end of the year, but in July 2025. Precisely from July 19th to 26th. During the summer holidays and before the presidential elections in Cameroon. It will be in Yaoundé, at the Olembé sports complex and in Douala at the Japoma sports complex.
These two architectural sculptures will house the usual activities of the festival, namely; trade fairs, promotional sales, workshops, music concerts and the unmissable international football gala matches, back and forth.
With regard to these football matches, the FBPC also intends to innovate by organizing, in an unprecedented way in Africa, the 1st all star game for former Indomitable Lions, after having had football legends from Nigeria and Brazil play in Cameroon. The former Indomitable Lions will compete at night and the matches will be broadcast live on the partner channels.
Concerning the matches proper, the Banana-Plantain sector will appoint two charismatic coaches and their staffs, then it will be up to each coach to freely choose his captain. Together, they will select 20 other legends of Indomitable Lions from all generations.
The match bonuses will be paid directly by the Banana-Plantain sector to approximately 50 former Indomitable Lions. And to make this festival a festive and popular event, access to the Olembe Sports Complexes on July 19, and Japoma on July 26, will be virtually free.
Ticket prices will indeed be affordable for the smallest budgets.
Furthermore, since 2025 is an election year, the FBPC intends to make the 4th edition of the International Banana-Plantain Festival a solemn moment of celebration of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul BIYA, for the public agricultural policies implemented in favor of Cameroon in general and the plantain sector stakeholders in particular.
In the same vein, the FBPC will magnify the values of patriotism and peace proposed by the Head of State. Peace without which no socio-economic development is possible. The 4th edition of the International Plantain Festival will therefore be placed under the sign of these values of which His Excellency Mr. Paul Biya is the great champion. It will involve calling on Cameroonians of all backgrounds to work for social peace, to demonstrate civic-mindedness and patriotism before, during and after the presidential election.
Last but not least, the 4th edition of the International Plantain Festival will again be an opportunity to recruit more members for the FBPC, to promote the Banana-Plantain value chain and its achievements, particularly in the export segment and job creation for young graduates and undergraduates.
Despite a very often difficult context, the captain of agricultural industry Tony Obam, national president of the Plantain sector of Cameroon, has made a habit of keeping his chips without slipping the date, thus many suprises awaits.
