Achouri Doubles Up as Tunisia Dismantles Uganda’s AFCON Dreams

Elias Achouri struck in each half to send Tunisia home and dry in a 3-1 academic win against the Uganda Cranes.

The Carthage Eagles staged a 90-minute dominance that left the Uganda Cranes searching for answers in the Moroccan rain. From the opening whistle, Tunisia operated with the cold, calculated efficiency of a team that had already decided the outcome before leaving the dressing room.

While the weather turned the pitch into a literal swamp, the Tunisians moved with a grace that suggested they were playing on a different surface entirely, effectively grounding the Cranes before they ever had a chance to take flight.

The dominance began a mere ten minutes into the contest. While the Ugandan defense was still trying to find its footing in the downpour, Ellyes Skhiri rose above a sea of static defenders to power home a header from a corner kick.

It was a goal that drained the stadium’s tension for the Tunisian fans and replaced it with a sense of grim inevitability. Uganda attempted to fight back with raw pace and spirit, but they quickly learned that enthusiasm is no match for elite positioning.

By the 40th minute, Elias Achouri turned a routine cross into a work of art, side-footing a volley into the back of the net to make it 2-0 and effectively ending the competitive portion of the evening.

The second half was less of a contest and more of a victory lap for the Tunisians.

Achouri proved to be the ultimate predator in the 64th minute, pouncing on a loose rebound with the hunger of a striker who refuses to settle for just one goal. His second strike pushed the score to 3-0 and turned the final half-hour into a masterclass in game management. Tunisia teased the ball away from their opponents, forcing the exhausted Ugandan players to chase shadows through the puddles.

There was a brief spark of Ugandan pride in the 92nd minute when Denis Omedi unleashed a thunderbolt from distance that nearly broke the crossbar on its way into the net.

It was a goal of such staggering beauty that it deserved to mean more, but in the context of the match, it was merely a footnote.  Ultimately, the 3-1 scoreline tells the story of two teams on different levels.

Tunisia walked off the pitch looking like they hadn’t broken a sweat despite the humidity, while Uganda was left to reflect on a night where their big stage ambitions were systematically dismantled. The Carthage Eagles have officially sent a message to the rest of the tournament: if you come at the kings of composure, you had better not miss, because they certainly won’t.
