AFCON 2000 remake: Eto’o, Okocha roll back the years in novelty Cameroon against Nigeria game

Cameroon beat Nigeria again In the 2000 AFCON Re-make on Thursday, November 30.

Cameroon scored thrice to beat Nigeria in a 3-1 victory in Thursday’s novelty match between the players of both countries that played in the Year 2000 African Nations Cup co-hosted by Nigeria and Ghana, sportgliz.com reports.

Bernard Tchoutang, Ndip Tambe and Samuel Etoo were the three scorers for the Cameroon Legends while Julius Agahowa scored the only and first goal in the match for Nigeria’s Legend. The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon came from a goal down after Julius Agahowa slipped pass goalkeeper Mwambo Awolos at the 17th minute.

Agahowa’s goal was cancelled out by Bernard Tchoutang just before Samuel Eto’o scored to poke Cameroon’s nose ahead.

The second half saw Nigeria rise in supremacy, especially with JayJay Okocha coming close in a couple of moves, but it was Cameroon that extended the lead.

2017 AFCON winner, Robert Ndip Tambe stroke in the second stanza to end the game 3-1 in favor of the Lions.

The game was organized by the National Association of Cameroonian Footballers.

Cameroon, 23 years ago beat Nigeria on penalties in the final after a 2-2 regulation time draw to lift the trophy at the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos.
