AFCON 2021: Algeria Wobbles Before Sierra Leone

The Algerian national team ‘stumbled’ on match day one of Group E against Sierra Leone with a scoreless draw at the “Japoma” stadium, in the 2021 African Cup of Nations, ongoing in Cameroon.

Algeria failed to win against team Sierra Leone in the campaign to defend her continental title following the 2019 crown in Egypt.

The first half of the game was unlike the desert foxes in every sense. It was probably the worst first half of the entire Belmadi era, with chances few and far between.

As for the second segment, the Algerian national team came back in force despite the strong pressure imposed by the Sierra Leone.

The desert foxes multiplied her attempts and Sofia Bendebka came close to scoring if it weren’t for the intervention of an opposing defender.

Captain Riyad Mahrez, handed a chance, twisted and turned, and tried from close range, but Mohamed Kamara saved his teammates, as he did for the whole game.

Algeria and Sierra Leone will then wait for the game pitting Cote D’Ivoire against Equatorial Guinea, to know their fate, moving forth.
