AFCON 2021: Antonio Conceiçao Pre – selects 40 Lions
Portuguese trainer Antonio Conceiçao has listed 40 Lions in view of the AFCON inked for January 9, 2021.
With less than a month to go, Conceiçao has included: 5 goalkeepers, 14 defenders, 8 midfeilders and 13 forwards, that will ultimately be trimmed.

Andre Onana has cemented his return after his doping ban. He played two of the previous Lions’ games in the World Cup qualifiers against Malawi and Cote D’Ivoire. His back up is set to be Greece based Epassy, and Simon Omossola of Vita Club. Narcisse Nlend currently serving an indefinite suspension by parent club Cotonsport, might make way when the team gets reduced.

In the list of Conceiçao’s defenders, there are 5 full – backs that reiterates the way he likes playing. Fai Collins had an exceptional outing last time out against Cote D’Ivoire. Red Bull Salzburg’s Jerome Onguene is one of few Cameroonian Internationals to make the round of 16s of the UCL this season. Ngadeu Michael, has played all games for his club side – Gent, while Olivier Mbaizo and his Philadelphia Union side are off to the MLS playoffs. There are some injury worries, however, at the defense block. Harold Moukoudi and Jean Claude Bilong are temporarily out due to Injury. Enzo Ebosse and Sacha Boey are all new comers.

AC Milan target Onana Jean has been a joy to watch for Bordeaux so far this season. Kunde Malong will be hoping to get back his place after three weeks of injury took him out of the Lions’ last two games. Arnaud Djoum is another making his come back, so is Yvan Neyou. Zambo Anguissa and Yvan Neyou are considered the men after Conceiçao’s heart, and they’ve got the numbers to back it up.

For the strikers, the big news is the return of Dynamo Moscow forward Njie Clinton. The winger makes his way back to the team after nearly a year of absence. Ebobisse Jeremy is a new comer in the Lions den, while Kevin Soni, as well, has gotten rewarded for his exceptional start of life at Asteras Tripolis, which has seen him bag four goals. Captain Vincent Aboubakar makes the cut, so does Tawamba, and John Mary. The big scare is the injury to in – form Lyon striker, Toko Ekambi. The winger who has scored 11 goals this season, was taken off in Lyon’s Europa league clash against Rangers on Thursday.
Coach Antonio Conceiçao and his background staff will further reduce the list in the days ahead. Cameroon opens her AFCON campaign against Burkina Faso on January 9. Ethiopia and Cape Verde then follow on January 13 and 17 respectively.
