AFCON 2021: Big Blow For Super Eagles As Osimhen Is Ruled Out Of AFCON

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been ruled out for three months after a surgery conducted this Tuesday, ultimately ruling him out of the AFCON build for January 9.

Victor Osimhen was diagnosed with multiple displaced facial fractures and underwent surgery this Tuesday.

Osimhen walked off in the 55th minute in Napoli’s 3-2 away loss to Inter, following a clash of heads with Milan’s Skriniar.

Osimhen, 22, has been Nigeria’s lead striker since 2019 after the retirement of Odion Ighalo. He has been in good form for the national team scoring four goals in their Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying Group C.

The former Lille striker has been in fine fertile this season, scoring 5 times in 11 Serie A games. He queues in as the second striker with most goals in the Euroupa league (4 goals) only bettered by Cameroon’s Toko Ekambi.

Osimhen has scored 6 goals in 8 games played this year – for the Super Eagles. In total, he has contributed 10 goals in 19 games for the Nigeria men’s senior team.
