AFCON 2021: Carlos Queiroz Justifies His Disguised, 5-5-0 Formation Against G. Bissau

By Ngome Michael

Egyptian coach, Carlos Queiroz says his Paharohs are upbeat for an eighth AFCON title despite staggering in the competion with a 1-0 defeat to group D leaders Nigeria.

Carlos was speaking prior to a must win against Sudan on January 19 while giving reasons for his 5-5-0 formation in their first win against Guinea Bissau.

According to the tactician, the tournament’s most successful team is without three of its defenders and he had implement what was draft on paper.

“If I write my formation an hour to the game, I don’t know in which hands it would land. I will advise you to read the game. I work for Egypt….we decided to put up what we did on paper,” he said.

The Portuguese also acknowledges the fact that there are no strong or weak side in the competion so far and its vital for Egypt to get a win against Sundan.

In view of the final game with the Eagles of Sudan, Queiroz is aware it’s going to be a tough one.

“We are not going to just play against men, but against a team that has been preparing to play us”.

Egypt and starman Mohamed Salah have managed just a goal so far in group D where they’re now tipped second favourites for the Round of 16 but, will on
