AFCON 2021:  D’Ivoire – Sierra Leone Ends In Dead Rubber

Twice Cote D’Ivoire had the lead, twice they lost it to a resilient Sierra Leone, who benefitted from an absolute however, to snatch a point away from Cote D’Ivoire.

While Côte D’Ivoire was clinging to a one – nil lead against Sierra Leone, Badra Ali Sangare, the Ivorian goalkeeper was guilty of an  error, which offered the equalizing goal (2- 2) at the last minute, to Sierra Leone.

It all came from his defender’s header, which the goalkeeper wanted to clutch, but erroneously released it.

The ball then   landed at the feet of Alhaji Kamara, who only had to push the ball into the back of the net to spark wild celebrations.

The misfortune didn’t come alone, as Badra Ali Sangare was injured in the action,  and had to be stretched out.

Côte d’Ivoire having made all its substitutions, used Serge Aurier as makeshift goalie.

The game was lively from start to finish as Côte d’Ivoire opened the scoring thanks to Sébastien Haller, before Musa Kamara completed a  perfect sequence of passing to equalize after the break.

The Ivorians thought they would get all three points thanks to Nicolas Pépé. But that was before the seesaw action at the 93rd minute, which keeps Sierra Leone on course for the title.
