AFCON 2021: Ghana Pass Out In The Hands Of Comoros

Probably the most improbable of stories were told in Garoua, as the Black Stars crashed out unprecedentedly, in the AFCON 2021.

Its not just the fact that the Black Stars bowed out; they leave rock bottom, having picked up just a single point in their group.

Group C attained climax and debutants Comoros – were keen on keeping their AFCON dream alive, while Ghana tried to limit the damage already caused in the tourney, with the team coming under enormous backlash.

After falling to a defeat to  Morocco, and then, sharing the spoils against Gabon, Ghana hit a new low as they were  eliminated (3-2) against the Comoros Island on Tuesday.

The Comoros took an early lead courtesy of El Fardou’s fourth minute goal. In the process of trying to get an equaliser, Ghana’s skipper, Andre Ayew – was handed a matching order at the 25th minute.

The game turned from bad to worst for the Black Stars as Ahmed Mogni doubled tally for Comoros at the 61st minute.

The Black Stars halved the deficit through
Richmond Boakye, despite being a man – short. 27-year-old Alexander Djiku then breath some life in the four time African champions, with a 77th minute equaliser. Coach Milovan Rajevac and his side decided to go all out for the victory with 10 men, as they needed all three points.

Ahmed Mogni completed his brace with 5 minutes left on the clock, and that was enough to seal Ghana’s fate on the night.

The victory permits Comoros Island to end third, and aspire for one of four ‘third best losers’ slots. For Ghana, it is yet another disappointing show at the continental show – piece, which they lastly won in 1982.
