AFCON 2021: ‘I Have Three Plan B’s’, Patrice Motsepe

CAF president Patrice Motsepe talking in a press conference in Benin’s economic capital – Cotonou, made mention of the fact that, he has three ‘plan B’s’ as regards the 2021 AFCON.

The 59 year old was however not talking of changing venue, but ensuring the smooth running of the tourney in Cameroon. Motsepe is absolutely certain 5 – time AFCON winners Cameroon, will host the competition that starts in January next year.

‘I have three plan B’s. The first is; the AFCON will certainly take place in Cameroon; the second is – the AFCON will take place in January in Cameroon; and the third is that there’s lots of background work, so that the AFCON in Cameroon turns out to be an absolute success.’

Meantime, August has emerged as a new month for the AFCON draws. Cameroonians can now look on hindsight, the berserk thoughts of Cameroon losing her hosting rights for the second time, as earlier rumoured by ‘detractors’ who fancied other nations like Algeria were right on queue to host the competition. President Patrice Motsepe has now assured all and sundry.

Motsepe has just affirmed to what CAF SG Veron Omba said, during his visit to Cameroon in June.

It was during a 48 hour visit to the Central African country, that CAF Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba dismissed rumours that said Cameroon could once more be stripped of hosting the continent’s biggest sporting competition by the Confederation of African Football, as it was the case in like it did in 2019.
