AFCON 2021: Olembe Sports Complex Steadies As Opener Lurks

The 60 thousand seater capacity Paul Biya stadium, show – named the Olembe Sports Complex has taking shape ahead of the AFCON 2021 opener, build for January 9.

The state of the art arena is programmed to host group A games on the 9th, 13th and 17th of January, before the knockout phase of the competition.

Olembe is ranked the 9th largest stadium on the African continent, prolly backing the reason why it has taken as much time to be officially graced.

Cameroon’s first of 6 World Cup qualifiers group stage games against Malawi was played at the Olembe stadium – on September 3, drawing administration from football fans and indeed stakeholders, who felt the stadium is a hit.

On one of Minister Narcisse Mouelle’s tour at the stadium early this month; Nov. 11 – officials of the Margil construction group, represented by their Project Director – Jean Fradique, voiced that the stadium was 95-97 percent complete.

Some of the facilities in the stadium like its giant screen, is matched by few in the world.

Looking from where the Local Organizing Committee and its President (Narcisse Mouelle Kombi) took over, with the stadium’s current status, it simply depicts a picture of how tirelessly work has been done.

Olembe plays host to the opening and closing ceremonies of the Total Africa Cup of Nations 2021 in Cameroon.
