AFCON 2021: President Motsepe Defends Authenticity Of Covid-19 Test Results

CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe alongside Secretary General, Verone Mosengo Omba have reiterated on the indepence and validity of Covid-19 test results issued to teams prior to games in the competition as it is currently at the knockout phase.

Dr Motsepe was speaking at press conference on January 25 in Yaounde following concerns over possible foul play on test results from CAF’s independent Laboratory.

According to the CAF scribe, the confederation contracted Euros2020 and FIFA Arab Cup Covid-19 test agency, UNILAB which is noted for its quality procedures and reputation.

“Players who travelled to Cameroon from outside Africa had a high degree of Covid-19 than those from within Africa”, he said.

In respect to the Stampede which occurred at the Olembe Stadium while Cameroon took on Comoros, Dr. Motsepe insist fans will show proof of a negative PCR test results before making way into stadia. He equally stated CAF is investigating the incident so as to improve on security measures.

The local organizing committee is said to approve proposals to relocate some games scheduled to take place at the Olembe Stadium.
