AFCON 2021: Richard Attah, Ayew Brothers Included In Rajevac’s Provisional List
As expected, Coach Milovan Rajevac has included Jordan Ayew and Dede Ayew to his 30 – man provisional AFCON list, this Tuesday, December 21st.
The Serb, fresh from sailing Ghana through to the Qatar World Cup knockout rounds, though under duress, has the uphill task of winning the Black Stars a fifth trophy, that will surely be the ‘Holy Grail’.
The list is made up of four keepers. The headliner amid four keepers called up is: Richard Attah of Hearts. The Hearts keeper was one of the main reasons why his club won the 2021 Ghana premier league. He will be fighting for a place in the team alongside: Joseph Wollacott (Swindon Town), Lawrence Ati – Zigi (ST. Fallen) and Manaf Nurudeen (Eupen).
Foxes defender – Daniel Amartey, who won that viral penalty converted by Dede against SA in the WC qualifiers leads the defense. Names of defenders;
Andy Yiadom (Reading FC), Philemon Baffour (Dreams FC), Baba Abdul Rahman (Reading FC), Gideon Mensah (Girondins Bordeaux), Daniel Amartey (Leicester City), Alexander Djiku (Strasbourg), Jonathan Mensah (Columbus Crew), Abdul Mumin (Victoria Guimares)
Arsenal star – Thomas Partey is heavily relied on for leadership and it will be quite a blend David Abagna, who is a mark of the Ghana Premier League, has equally made the cut.
The Ayew brothers lead the front lines. Dede is the skipper and is expected to almost have a natural starting role, and same obtains for Jordan.
Ghana has lined up a couple of friendlies, including a high profile friendly against AFCON holders – Algeria.
Ghana are lodged in pool C of the AFCON and are set to take on: Gabon, Morocco, and the Comoros. They start their tourney against Morocco on January 10
