AFCON 2021: Salah’s Strike Brings Back Egypt To Contention

After their first match and defeat in the Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt managed to leapfrog Guinea Bissau through a slender margin. And isn’t it just fitting, that, it is Mohamed Salah who got them back on queue?

The main thing coming into the game for the Pharaohs was to win, and keep hopes of going through to the next round of the competition.
And the Pharaohs did.

Victory, however, took a long time to come on Saturday night for the Egyptians.

Three times in the game, Egypt saw the posts repel their attempts. And at the break, neither team had nestled the nets.

A goal only came in 9 minutes after the the hour mark. In the 69th minute, Mohamed Salah finally found the space in the area, and was calm enough to deceive the Guinea Bissau goalkeeper.

The Pharaohs could breathe right afterwards. Towards the end of the match, Mama Baldé almost froze the seven-time African champions with a magnificent goal, finally canceled for a questionable fault at the start of the action. Egypt held the score until the end of the match and won its second game.
