AFCON 2021: The Fans Love Me – Zambo Anguissa

It has been a rollercoaster tournament so far for Cameroon’s Zambo Anguissa, who has had unerring moments, and at times Jeered by fans of the Indomitable Lions.

The midfeilder was jeered to the rafters when Cameroon played their last group game against Comoros, but then, he had a twist of fate within four days, as he was applauded – when he made his way out against Gambia, in the round of 16.

Present at the pre-match presser prior to the semis against Egypt, Anguissa made mention of the fact that, fans support with all their hearts, and despite their critics, he knows they love him.

‘When you choose football, you are open to to criticism.’

Anguissa equally admitted not being very keen on what fans say;

‘I don’t read all what is said.

‘I make sure I give in my best while playing. In Cameroon, sometimes, you cannot expect fans to not objective.

‘They have some wrong analysis, and I can’t really blame them for that. I love them, because i know that they love me; that is why they do what they do. During the match against Gambia I think that we played well and I contributed my quota.

‘I keep on calling on all the supporters because we need a 12th man. I have the trust of the coach and my teammates, which encourages me to play, and I know that in some moments, they rely on me.’ the Napoli metronome ended.

Most Indomitable Lions fans hold that Anguissa can do more than what he is doing for the national selection, especially as they look up to him to be the star of the team.

Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa has meanwhile started all games in the AFCON so far, and he is set to start against Egypt on February 3.
