AFCON 2021: “We’ve Attained Our First Objective” – Antonio Conceiçao
By Ngome Michael
Indomitable Lions head coach, Antonio Conciecao says he and his squad have attained their AFCON group stage objective, qualifying as group head despite draw against Cape Verde.
Cameroon couldn’t hold tight to their first half lead from top scorer Vincent Aboubakar in a 1-1 draw against familiar foes, Cape Verde.
The Portuguese trainer is however satisfied with the Lions tactical performance though it witnessed some loopholes.
“…we started with a lot of offensive play. We laid emphasis on our midfeild. We tried through balls because it is a game we master so well. We tried to go through the wings. We wanted to win but it wasn’t possible”.
“I opted for three midfeilders and that is what we did against Ethiopia and the ball was circulated properly. Cape Verde are used to us and have captured our game style”, Conciecao told the press after the game.
He equally admitted his team were not so efficient against Cape Verde but, exhibited a good game style.
The Lions in their three group stage matches scored a total of 7goals, with 7poibts and conceding three goals which according to Conciecao has not reduced the team’s morale
“We conceded three goals and we should do better. But it should be noted that our team has a good morale”.
Other final group matches continue tomorrow, January 18 with speculations linking Cameroon with third best from groups C, D and E.
