AFCON 2023: Angola narrowly edge Mauritania in 5 goal thriller

Angola defeated Mauritania 3-2 in one of the most entertaining games of AFCON 2023. In the Group B Matchday 2 clash, Angola made a statement with spectacular goals from both teams, securing the victory against a resilient Mauritania.

Gelson Dala opened the scoring for the Palancas Negras in the 30th minute. However, Mauritania quickly equalized before the end of the first half, thanks to a goal from Sidi Amar in the 43rd minute. Dala completed his brace with Angola’s second in the 50th minute.

Three minutes later, Gilberto extended the lead to 3-1, against the run lf play, when the opposing defense failed to communicate. Mauritania did not give up, as Aboubakary Koita scored a fantastic goal to bring the score to 3-2 in the 58th minute.

With this result, Angola tops Group D with four points, on the verge of securing a spot in the Round of 16, while putting pressure on the Algerian national team (two points). Meanwhile, Mauritania is virtually eliminated from the tournament.
