AFCON 2023: Cameroon to pay homage to Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo

Players and staff of team Cameroon have unanimously agreed to pay homage to Brentford’s winger, Bryan Mbuemo in their opening AFCON game on Monday, Jan. 15.

Olivier Kemen and coach Rigobert Song disclosed the assertion at the team’s pre match press conference this Sunday.

“There’s no house on fire. We are sad for Bryan but that’s football. We have to play on. I know that he would have wanted to participate in the competition. Tomorrow, someone will take his place and the person has to do well for the team. We will pay homage to him tomorrow,” Olivier Kemen said.

Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo will was sidelined for three months hence, missing out on the Africa Cup of Nations for Cameroon after having an operation on his ankle.

Mbeumo had stepped up in the absence of banned striker Ivan Toney to top the scoring charts for Brentford with seven goals and three assists in the league this season.

The Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on Jan. 13 with five-times champions Cameroon in Group C along with Senegal, Guinea and Gambia.

Brentford have dropped to 11th in the league after one win and four defeats in their last five games.

Mbuemo was just beginning to pick steam for team Cameroon with good performances against Burundi and Mauritius. Cameroon begins its campaign against Guinea, looking for an early tournament win in a tricky group C.
