AFCON 2023: Cisse replaces Dia and Seny Dieng in Teranga Lions’ squad

Senegal will not be able to count on two important elements during the African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024), which kicks off on January 13.

The two players are Boulaye Dia and Sény Dieng, injured with their two respective clubs, namely Salernitana and Middlesbrough FC.

A hard blow for Aliou Cissé, the coach of the “Lions” who will have to review his plans, a few days before the first game of the reigning African champion in Cote D’Ivoire.

According to several sources, Cisse has decided to call on FC Lorient striker Bamba Dieng as well as Stade Rennais goalkeeper Alfred Gomis who will join the den in the next few hours.

Aged 23, Bamaba Dieng has played 18 matches with the National Team to his credit, with a record of 2 goals and 2 assists.

On his part, Alfred Gomis has appeared 16 times for the Senegalese selection, crowned with 9 clean sheets and 8 goals conceded.

In the ongoing season, Dieng has scored 2 goals in 8 matches played in Ligue 1.
