AFCON 2023: Indomitable Lions skipper, Aboubakar out for 2 weeks
Vincent Aboubakar is reportedly out for two weeks after sustaining a bad injury during Cameroon’s training session ahead of their AFCON opener.
The nature of the injury is yet to be confirmed, but sportglitz gathered that the 11-goal striker this season for Besiktas, pulled his hamstring
This Friday, January 12, the Indomitable Lions trained behind closed doors at the Félix Houphouet Boigny national polytechnic institute.
At the end of training, captain Vincent Aboubakar and his teammates returned without any hitches to the team’s base at Hotel président in Yamoussoukro, Cote D’Ivoire.
The striker sustained an injury that later aggravated.
Vincent Aboubakar, who will celebrate his 31st birthday on January 22, was top scorer (8 goals) in the last AFCON played in Cameroon in 2022.
The 2017 African champion, remains to this day the most effective poacher.
Aboubakar could be kept to undergo treatment, hoping for quick recovery for the knockout rounds – or, replaced if Rigobert Song and staff see need.
Cameroon starts its AFCON journey on January 15, 2024. Aboubakar will certainly be absent on the roster.
