AFCON 2023 Q: Marou Souaibou Headlines List Of 25 Locals To Camp
A group of 25 hopefuls led by Cotonsport skipper – Marou Souaibou, are well and truly down to business at the Mundi Multisport Complex – as was scheduled by coach Rigobert Song, earlier this month.
The gaffer’s aim is to try and pick out a crop of players plying locally, to blend with foreign-based players, in view of Cameroon’s AFCON 2023 qualifying games.
Souaibou and co are expected to be in camp for a period of four days: May 23-27, after which they will be dispatched to their respective clubs.
Souaibou is one of the more experienced in the camp, as he was present in the squad that played Algeria in the World Cup qualifying playoffs, though he wasn’t fielded in both occasions.
Since he returned from camp with the Indomitable Lions however, Souaibou has aided Cotonsport to an unbeaten streak with a contribution to 12 of the team’s goals: 6 goals and 6 assists. The latest of Souaibou’s heroics was in his side’s 3-0 mauling of Elite One group B leaders, Eding Football Club.
Coach Rigobert Song and his assistant Sebastien Migne, will keep clutch on Souaibou to see his development from the last time he was with the Indomitable Lions in March.
Cameroon will have just Burundi to face as Kenya will not partake in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, with the East African side failing to have their suspensions by FIFA, set aside.
