AFCON 2023 Q: Mozambique’s to lose after routine victory against Rwanda
Mozambique are one point away from a ticket to AFCON 2023, after a 2-0 victory against Rwanda on Sunday afternoon.
It was an electric game day 5 of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. While the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw a year ago, Mozambique returned to win the decisive one.
During a largely dominated game at the Huye Stadium, Mozambique was able to count on the goals of Geny Catamo (43rd) and Clésio Bauque (90+4) to dump Rwanda.
With the 2-0 victory, Mozambique now has 7 points and is one point from qualifying for AFCON 2023, behind leaders Senegal, with 13 points. Third placed Benin are still in contention with 5 points. Rwanda has been eliminated from the running.
