AFCON 2025 Q: Patrick Soko records impressive 12 minutes against Namibia
Huesca’s Patrick Soko was thrown into the fray in Cameroon’s zero-all tie against Namibia on Wednesday, with 12 minutes left on the clock.
The 27-year-old came-on in place of Frank Magri and nearly made an instant impact after a delightful one-two, but his effort was scrambled out in the near post by goalkeeper Edward Maova.
The game ended all square but had no major significance with both teams aware of their définitive placements ahead of the encounter.
Cameroon had already booked a ticket to the AFCON with a slender 1-0 win over Kenya on game day 4, while Namibia, was out of the competition with the group’s lowest points tally.
The indomitable Lions and Patrick Soko are left with one more home game in the AFCON qualifiers against Zimbabwe on Tuesday, November 19th.
With no stakes, coach Marc Brys could hand more minutes to reserves. Patrick Soko is a good backup option in a hotly contested wing-position, garnished with the presence of rejuvenated Bassogog, plus, Georges Kevin Nkoudou. Moumi Ngamaleu’s injury only creates further space for wide-men.
Soko has been dire for Huesca this season, registering over 744 minutes across 11 of 12 games played, en route to Huesca’s promotion-chasing season. Huesca are placed 10th but just 4 points separates them from second-placed Real Zaragoza.
