AFCON U20: 2021 Beaten Finalists Uganda Off To An Impressive Start

Beaten finalists of the previous edition, Uganda did not miss its first step in the TotalEnergies U20 Africa Cup of Nations as the Hippos disposed of the Central African Republic (2-1) on Monday in group B in Suez, Egypt.

After holding out for 45 minutes, the Fauves, quarter-finalists of the previous edition, cracked on returning from the locker room when Isma Mugulusi headed from a corner to open the scoring from close range at the 47th minute.

With a superb curled shot from a tight angle to the left of the area, John Paul Dembe then scored to double tally at the 74th minute.

On a long through ball, Boris Gbenou took advantage of the poor positioning of the Ugandan defense to save some honor for the Central African Republic after additional time which made it 2-1, at the 95th minute of play.

The Fauves will try to recover on Thursday during the second day against South Sudan, who are played and lost (2-1) in their first match in its history in the competition on Monday at 6 p.m. against Congo in the other meeting of this group B.
