“AFCON was viewed by over 2 billion” Dr. Motsepe

CAF president, Patrice Motsepe, has said about two billion people are watching the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

Motsepe disclosed this at a press conference on Friday in Abidjan at a meeting with CAF Member Associations’ Presidents ahead of the AFCON final on Sunday.

According to the CAF boss it is an achievement that Africans should be proud of.

“We have had close to two billion people watching AFCON globally. We should be proud as Africans and the next one will be even better,” Motsepe said at the press conference via CAF X handle.

He added: “The success of Africa depends upon Africa working together, trading together, and in football, countries competing and playing together.”

Meanwhile, the AFCON 2023 will come to a close on Sunday, 11 February with hosts Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria’s Super Eagles playing in the final.

The Eagles reached the final after defeating South Africa 4-2 on penalties after regulation time ended 1-1.

The Ivorians overcame Democratic Republic of Congo 1-0 thanks to a Sebastien Haller volley.

While Jose Peseiro’s men will be seeking a fourth AFCON title, Côte d’Ivoire will hope to land a third in their history.
