African Vice-Champions Morocco Lose To Romania In Pre WWC Friendly

The Atlas Lionesses lost 1-0 in a friendly game against Romania, a few months ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Moroccan women’s national football team lost 1-0 to Romania in a friendly match on Tuesday in the Romanian capital Bucharest.

Cristina Carp, who plays as a forward for the Italian club Como scored the match’s only goal in the 23rd minute.

Earlier this month, Morocco’s national women’s football team lost 2-0 to the Czech Republic.

The game comes a few months ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will begin in July in New Zealand and Australia.

The Atlas Lionesses qualified for the global tournament for the first time following their spectacular performances at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) that took place in Morocco in July of last year.

The Moroccan team delivered a strong performance throughout the tournament, only losing 1-2 to South Africa in the final.

After their stellar performance in the WAFCON, Moroccan football fans are hopeful that the Atlas Lionesses, the first Arab women’s team to qualify for the Women’s World Cup, will produce a strong performance at the global event, similar to that of their male counterparts.

The Moroccan national team made history last year at the men’s World Cup in Qatar, becoming the first Arab and African nation to reach the tournament’s semifinals.
