Aigle Royale Stun Bamboutos, Leaps Into Top Four
By Ngome Michael
Aigle Royale of Menoua’s magnificent run of four wins in five matches extended into Day-15 at the Mbouda Municipal as the elite one resumed from a lengthy break due to the African Cup of Nations.
Since deciding to let go of Olivier Nankam, the Eagles have soared in the clouds with their last two ending in victories against Union of Douala at home and away to Gazelle FA.
It was in the same spirit that Gaston Temfack stationed his troops against heavyweights in Bamboutos of Mbouda at the MTN Arena.
The Mangwa Boys were on run of back-to-back 3-0 wins over Union and AS Fortuna before having spoils shared with 10men at home to Dynamo, were keen on returning to wining ways and edge closer to the group leaders.
However, things didn’t go as hoped for Asare Bediako whose side ended on the losing end courtesy of first half added time goal from Aigle wanderkid Mbembong Junior.
Bamboutos despite housing scorers in of Katche, Koupit and Kwasi searched for a leveler that never saw the light of day, resulting to a derby defeat. Despite losing, the Mangwa Boys stay third on the log a point behind Canon.
For Aigle, victory meant they have bounced back from points dropped in the first round and could creat an upset by securing a ticket to the playoffs from the next three matches.
Coach Gaston Temfack prepares his men for Wednesday (February 21st) when they face PWD while Bamboutos heads into another cracker with Canon of Yaounde.
