Ajara & Chawinga Help Inter Onto Italian Women’s Cup Semi

Nchout Ajara scored and assisted Chawinga in her team’s second leg shootouts victory over Sampdoria in the quarter-final of the Italian cup.

Nchout Njoya Ajara was again decisive on Wednesday afternoon with Inter Milan. Opposed against Sampdoria in the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup, the Nierrazzuris lost 3-4 after regular and extra time but won on penalties, to book a semi-final spot.

After the 3-2 success in Genoa, the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia was played at the Konami Youth Development Center. Inter started on the pitch with Piazza in goal, Alborghetti and Fordos in the center of defence, Mihashi, Santi and Pandini in midfield, Ajara and Chawinga supporting Polli up top.

The Nerazzurri had an excellent approach to the game, and took advantage from a set piece thanks to Polli’s header from Pandini’s corner. Five minutes later the lead was doubled courtesy of the Ajara-Chawinga pair: Chawinga was quickest from Ajara’s shot parried and finished to make it 2-0.

Chawinga returned the favour minutes later. Inter’s number 11 served Ajara perfectly for the game’s 3rd.

The first half ended with constant high pressure from the Nerazzurri who came close to scoring the fourth goal several times with Merlo and Mihashi.

In the second half the narrative changed and as in the first leg. Thanks to the substitutions, Sampdoria found the energy to recover.

Regazzoli scored in the 48th minute, then the lead was further chiseled by Prugna’s goal from distance, then Oliviero’s 68th minute equaliser to make it three-all. In the 73rd minute Bonfantini turned the game around and scored Sampdoria’s fourth.

Inter held on and slipped into extra time where the Nerazzurri came close to scoring on two occasions, first with Polli’s shot that hit the outside of the net, then with Van Der Grag’s header that grazed the post. Goals did not arrive and qualification was played on penalties which inter came out victorious (8-8).
