Coach Marc Brys has shaken things up in the Indomitable Lions’ squad ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifier matches against Mauritania and Angola, injecting fresh energy with the inclusion of Fidel Brice Ambina and Etta Eyong. The pair’s addition has sparked excitement among fans and could prove pivotal in Cameroon’s quest for World Cup glory.
Ambina has contributed 8 goals; four goals, four assists so far this season for Valerenga, while Karl Etta Eyong has scored four times, dishing out 3 assits for both Villarreal abd Levante this season.
With the dream of the FIFA 2026 World Cup still very much alive, the Indomitable Lions coach, Marc Brys has announced his squad for a pivotal double-header in the upcoming October international window.
The Lions are set to face Mauritius and Angola in matches that could significantly shape their qualifying destiny.
The pressure is palpable. Having missed out on the knockout stages in Qatar 2022 despite a historic win over Brazil, Cameroon is determined to make a deeper run in the expanded 2026 tournament, which must first start with qualifying to the tournament.
The qualifying campaign, has presented its challenges, making these next two fixtures – an away clash against Mauritius on October 8, 2025, in St. Pierre, followed by a home battle against Angola on October 14, 2025, in Yaounde – absolutely critical.
Coach Brys has opted for a blend of seasoned veterans and promising talents, signaling an intent to secure maximum points. The squad list, emblazoned with the “Lions Indomptables” insignia, features familiar names that will undoubtedly inspire confidence among the Cameroonian faithful.
The Chosen Few: Key Players to Watch
In goal, the formidable André Onana leads the line, bringing his world-class shot-stopping ability and distribution. He’ll be supported by Dévis Epassy and Simon Omossola, ensuring strong competition.
The defensive line boasts a mix of experience and youthful vigor. Jean-Charles Castelletto and Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui are expected to provide leadership, while the likes of Jackson Tchatchoua and Malcom Bokele will look to shore up the flanks and provide defensive solidity. The inclusion of Junior Tchamadeu speaks to Brys’s eye for emerging talent. Nagida Mahamadou gets recalled after impressing during the last window against ESWATINI, and, Samuel Kotto of KAA Gent makes his return for the first time since 2019. André-Frank Zambo Anguissa will be the lynchpin, dictating play and breaking up opposition attacks. He is joined by the energetic Carlos Baleba, the versatile Martin Hongla, and the promising Arthur Avom and Fidèle Brice Ambina, forming a dynamic engine room capable of controlling games. Ambina is returning after his U23 days where he was captain under Guy Armand Fetchine.
Upfront, the attacking arsenal is a testament to Cameroon’s historical prowess. The iconic Vincent Aboubakar remains a potent threat, alongside the pace and trickery of Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Bassogog, and Georges-Kévin Nkoudou. The presence of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting with 17 goals in the MLS adds a touch of more top-tier experience, while Nicolas Brice Moumi Ngamaleu, Frank Magri, Danny Namaso, Patrick Soko, and Karl Etta Eyong complete a fearsome array of options designed to breach any defense. All eyes will be on La Liga’s rising star, Karl Etta Eyong who has been on fire in the Spanish top-flight this season.
A Campaign at a Crossroads
These two matches are more than just qualification points; they are an opportunity for the Indomitable Lions to assert their dominance and put their campaign firmly back on track. A strong showing, particularly a victory in front of their home crowd in Yaounde against Angola, would not only garner crucial points but also inject a vital dose of morale into the squad and rekindle the passion of a nation that lives and breathes football. Cape Verde leads group D with 19 points, while Cameroon follow on 15. The Indomitable Lions must win both remaining games and hope for results elsewhere to go in their favour. Without which, Cameroon would have only the best loser slot to fall on.
