Andre Ayew picks team work over records

Ghana skipper Andre Ayew asserted in a pre-game press conference on Saturday afternoon that breaking records is secondary to achieving collective victory.

As Ghana braces for its inaugural match in the 34th Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) against Cape Verde on Sunday evening at 8:00 pm, Ayew’s focus lies squarely on steering the Black Stars to victory.

Ayew, conscious of one or two individual records within his grasp, expressed a deliberate prioritization of the team’s success.

“All 27 players want to play, which is important but personally there are one or two records I can break,” he said.

“I have worked hard to get here most important is the team I am hoping I can break these records whilst the team wins. The team is most important and we need to win first,” he added.

Ghana’s lacklustre performance in the 33rd edition, hosted in Cameroon, has amplified the anticipation surrounding this campaign.
