Arrey Jefter: Neymar Wannabe Trailblazing In Cameroon
Continental FA forward Arrey Jefter is a talented player who has some key attributes that places him a tab above others in Cameroon’s third tier (regional championship), which has earned him the nickname ‘Neymar’.
He is adding to his reputation this season with multiple man of the match performances, that has earned him 5 goals to his credit, with more than half of the season still to go.
Jefter’s ability has not been in question since he first burst onto the Southwest regional league courtesy of football promoter and former Indomitable Lions star, Essa Puis Tabi, who chosed to invest in youth upon his return from the US. Initially, questions were raised as to whether Jefter would eventually be able to handle the rigors of the championship given his physical status.
Neverthless, time and again, the 18-year-old has continued to excel on the field. However, the frightening thing about the youngster is the fact that he is not yet a finished product, and could still get better in all areas of his game.
Here is a breakdown of the key attributes to Jefter’s game.
Speed
The erstwhile Cameroon U15 starlet is a very fast player. Probably due to the fact that his build is so slight, but still, he is fast. When you add Jefter’s speed to some of the other attributes on this list, you can see why he is so good.
Jefter is able to break away from defenders on a counterattack or slip behind them for a through ball, and in many instances, he gets to the ball first. Speed can hurt the best defenders and Arrey Jefter has a lot of it.
First touch
Jefter always has a good first touch to set up his moves that dazzle both crowds and defenders.
With teammates who play slick, and smooth football on the transition, Jefter has mastered the one-two’s which helps him get behind the defense as his first touch allows him to make quick one touch passes in hopes of getting the ball in return.
Jefter is able to make his moves, whether that be making a pass, dribbling or shooting, much quicker with his good first touch.
Technique
Jefter has good technique in just about every area of the game involving his foot. In order to do all the things he does so well, he blends his first touch, dribbling, shooting and even passing— which has led to a good amount of assists to his name this season (4).
Some players have better technique than others and
Cameroon’s ‘Neymar’ certainly isn’t the best, at least for now, but whilst awaiting global fame, it is one of the key attributes of his game.
Dribbling
Jefter doesn’t just dribble. He dribbles with an enormous amount of flair. Flicks, back-heels, step-overs and so on are just what you expect to see when he plays.
Jefter’s dribbling can be a delight to watch for everyone except the opposing defenders. His dribbling allows him to wiggle out of tight situations and create space for himself to shoot or pass.
Finishing
Jefter has scored over 52 goals in his amateur career for both clubs and country (U15, U17) in the last four seasons for parent club, Continental FA. That is a pretty solid haul for someone just starting their career.
Jefter has the ability to finish well with both feet and that makes him a very dangerous opponent.
