AWCON 2022 Q: Queen Scorpions Arrive Cameroon Ahead Of Lionesses Game
The Gambia Women’s Football team arrived the Nsimalen airport in the early hours of this Wednesday morning, ahead of their AWCON – first leg clash, against the Lionesses of Cameroon.
The delegation consisting of 23 players used a connecting flight that saw them travel from from Dakar (Blaise Diagne Int’l airport), to Cote D’Ivoire (Houphouet Boigny Int’l airport), and finally arriving the Nsimalen airport in Yaounde, at dawn.
The Scorpion Queens are in this stage of the qualifiers after a dominant display against Sierra Leone, that saw them defeating the Sierra Queens 3-1 on aggregate, to advance to round two of the qualifiers.
Just like over a fortnight ago when the Gambia – men’s senior team met Cameroon at the AFCON quarter finals, the ladies have a date with the Lionesses, and perhaps, and unfinished business.
Gambia could be in for only their first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations if they manage to beat Cameroon on aggregate.
Fans are expecting some sort of routine win for the Lionesses, but in recent times, the team now managed by Gabriel Zabo has shown they’re not invincible.
The first leg comes up on Friday 18th at the Amadou Ahidjio stadium.
