Black Stars Shameful AFCON Exit: Gov’t, GFA Meet To Seek Urgent Solution

By Ngome Michael

Ghana’s Ministry of Sports has not been indifferent from fans with the Country’s group stage elimination from the 33rd AFCON ongoing in Cameroon.

Debutants, Comoros denied the four – time Champions a chance to finish third in Group C, beating ten-man Ghana 3-2 in final group game.

The West African giants managed just a point against Gabon having lost 1-0 to Morocco in the first game. It is the first time since 2006 that the Black Stars won’t go deep into the competition.

The Country’s Minister of Youths and Sports, Mustapha Ussif will meet today, January 20 with the Ghanian Football Association officials to map out ways to salvage the current situation.

In a communiqué released few hours after the shocking group stage exit, Minister Ussif voiced out the entire nation’s utter disappointment with the team especially after disbursing huge funds for their qualifiers and camping in Qatar.

“The Ministry has surmoned the G.F. A leadership to an emergency meeting scheduled for 21st January to urgently discuss decisions aimed at salvaging the performance of the Black Stars especially in the next sets of games”, an excerpt of the communiqué reads.

Ghana will in the days ahead know their opponent for the 2022 World Cup final Play-offs penciled for March.

Ten teams in under two months will compete on home and away basis to produce the Final five to represent the continent in Qatar.
