Boumal Stars In Defeat As Jets Lose To Phoenix
Olivier Boumal scored for Newcastle Jets on match day 14 but they threw away crucial three points in a frustrating 3-2 loss to Wellington Phoenix on Wednesday night.
The Jets dominated possession and had three times as many shots as their counterparts but never held control on the scoresheet in a game where Newcastle’s defensive frailties were again called to question.
Phoenix took the lead three times, once from the penalty spot and twice on the counter attack at Central Coast Stadium.
Newcastle came from behind to equalise two times – first through Daniel Penha then Olivier Boumal – but it was not enough as they conceded an 89th minute winner.
Jaushua Sotirio scored the game’s opener at the 25th minute, the Jets came back to level up matters at the 42nd minute courtesy Daniel Penha.
Just before the break, Phoenix restored their lead. The Jets once more had to come from behind, with Olivier Boumal firing past Sail with his weaker right foot (88).
Just like a repeat of the scenario throughout the game, David Ball landed the coup de gras on Olivier Boumal’s Jets as they went on to lose 3-2.
Boumal has contributed to four goals; 2 goals, 2 assists in 14 games since joining the Jets.
The Jets lose one place on the official classification as they are now ranked 9th on the table.
