Brazilians On The Edge As Pele’s Health Deteriorates

Brazilian legend Pele is critically ill and the whole nation is on the edge.

While the Seleção is on a mission to Qatar to bag a sixth star on the Auriverde jersey, Pelé has again been admitted as a matter of urgency at the Albert Einstein hospital, in south of São Paulo, on Tuesday, November 29.

Suffering from cancer, the only footballer in history to have been world champion three times; 1958, 1962 and 1970, is currently being treated, ESPN Brazil reports.

The 82-year-old football icon underwent a battery of tests on Wednesday, November 30, for a more in-depth evaluation of the problems detected and to attempt a treatment of the metastatic cancer.

According to information from the local press, the chemotherapy performed over the past few months has shown no response to the tumors.

Very agitated on his arrival at the hospital, Pelé was diagnosed with mental confusion. The top scorer in the history of the Seleção, is reportedly weak and equally has difficulty feeding. Pele’s state of health has worried Brazilians but his relatives have come out to reassure his millions of fans. “A lot of alarm in the media today about my father’s health. He is in the hospital to regulate his medication”, his daughter Kely Nascimento wrote on Instagram.

Currently in Qatar, Kelly wrote: ‘I won’t jump on a plane to run. I’ll be there for New Year’s celebration and promise to post some pics. There is no surprise or urgency”, she added.

“We are very grateful for the affection and the love that you transmit to us,” Kelly’s Instagram handle reads.

The best possible gift for Pele will be for the Brazilian national team to win the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
