Bryan Mbeumo Scores As Bees Hand Liverpool A New Year Lashing
Bryan Mbeumo scored one of three Brentford goals as the Cameroonian stroke to make it 3-1, and three points winged the way of he Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The evening’s flurry of goals srarted with Liverpool shooting themselves on the foot. Under pressure from Mee on the edge of the six-yard box on a corner, Konate couldn’t sort his standpoint and the ball glanced off him into the net – via Alisson’s despairing fingertip touch which got the Bees ahead.
Wissa doubled Brntford’s lead before the break.
The home fans went wild! After several close misses, Wissa slipped clear of Alexander-Arnold and Konate to nod the ball goalward from Jensen’s cross, and despite Alisson’s terrific leap to try and keep it out, the ball just about crossed the line.
Oxlade Chamberlain halved the deficit for Liverpool 5 minutes after the start of the second half. The Englishman’s goal followed just after Nunez’ left footed finish – was chalked off for off-side.
While Liverpool went in search for an equaliser, the men of Thomas Franck added another to bag all 3 points.
At the 84th minute, after Keita lost the ball high up the pitch, Norgaard put through an excellent ball into Liverpool’s box, where Konate was shrugged off forcefully by the Cameroon striker, who then coolly threaded it past Alisson.
After 18 matches, Brentford move up to 7th place with 26 points. 23 year old Mbeumo takes his goal contribution up to 4 goals and 1 assist this season.
