Bubista Returns In Cape Verde’s AFCON Exit

By Ngome Michael

Senegal defeated a 9 — man Cape Verde to seal a place in the last eight of the African Cup of Nations Ongoing in Cameroon.

A scoreline which doesn’t tell the entire story in Bafoussam. Senegal approached the game full of intensity but only managed to break the deadlock after goalkeeper Vozinha Dias clashed with Sadio Mané and was shown a direct red card.

Algerian referee, Lahlou Benbraham had earlier dished out red to Patrick Andrade at the 21st minute after consulting the monitor for a contestable high boat.

Talisman, Sadio Mané who struck the wood work with Senegal’s best first half chance got his second goal of the tournament three minutes after the hour mark.

Bubista’s late second half substitutions indicated that he was in search for an equalizer and probably take the game into extra time despite his side’s numerically disadvantage.

Substitute Bamba Dieng combined Beautifully in added time with Famara Diedhlou to outsmart Blue Shark’s Marcio with the icing on the cake.

Favorites Senegal are slowly edging towards an AFCON title in which they were tipped favorites in. Aliou Cissé and the Terrenga Lions have scored just three goals in the competition so far.
