CAF Announces Prize Money Boost for 2025/26 Inter-Club Season
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially implemented a substantial increase in prize money for its flagship interclub competitions. Starting with the current 2025/2026 season, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has as a strategy to enhance the commercial value of the African game and ensure that the continent’s top clubs can move towards true financial self-sustainability.
The biggest change is seen in the CAF Champions League, where the stakes for reaching the pinnacle have never been higher. CAF has confirmed that the winner of the prestigious competition will now take home a record-breaking $6 million jackpot. This reflects a massive 50% increase from the previous $4 million reward, signaling a new era for the tournament.
The financial rewards for excellence extend to the final match itself, as the runner-up is now set to receive $2 million for their efforts.
This financial windfall is not limited to the Champions League alone. The CAF Confederations Cup is also receiving a significant injection of capital to elevate its status and competitiveness. The winner’s prize for the Confederation Cup has effectively doubled. The champion of this tournament will now walk away with $4 million, while the runner-up is guaranteed $1 million, ensuring that the secondary tier of continental football remains a lucrative pursuit for clubs across Africa.
This higher prize pools allow clubs to reinvest in modern stadium infrastructure, youth academies, and medical facilities. Perhaps most importantly, these funds provide clubs with the financial muscle to offer more competitive salaries, which is essential for retaining top-tier African talent who might otherwise seek early moves to leagues in Europe or Asia.
