CAF CL: Banga Bindjeme Set To Return To Garoua

Former Cotonsport skipper, Salomon Banga Bindjeme is set to pit his former side after Monday’s CAF champions league draw in Egypt.

Cotonsport have been paired in group B, in what many refer to as the ‘group of death’ alongside: Sundowns, Ahly and Hilal.

The group totals an astonishing 13 CAF champions league trophies from 3 teams; Sundowns (1), Ahly (10) and Hilal (2). Meanwhile, Cotonsport is yet to grab the coveted trophy. The Garoua-based outfit’s biggest achievement remains the 2008 final – where they were defeated by Al Ahly.

Banga Bindjeme, 26, played for 3 seasons putting together more than 80 appearances at Cotonsport where he won 2 Elite One trophies and played the semis of the CAF Confederations cup in 2021.

While with the Northeners, Banga was made captain of the intermediate Lions. He led Martin Ndtoungou Mpille’s team to fourth place in the African Nations Championship hosted by Cameroon in 2021.

In August 2021, Bindjeme was transferred to Difaa El Jadida, before completing a move to Al Hilal in April 2022.

It is clear that there will be no roses on the return of the man who was once considered a fan favorite in Garoua.

As one who likes a challenge, Banga will certainly relish the idea of going up against his former teammates. Cotonsport receives Hilal on match day 3 that will be played between February 24-25, and then, fly to Sudan for the reversed fixture on the 4th of March.
